Short and honest: what vasknu is and where the numbers come from.
Why is it called vasknu?
"Vask nu" is Danish for "wash now", and that is the whole idea: when power is cheap, now is the time to run the washing machine and the dishwasher. The site is a small hobby project, made to see when it is cheapest to do the dishes and the laundry. Free, no account, no ads.
How is the price calculated?
- The spot price comes from Energi Data Service (Energinet) for DK1 or DK2. It is given in DKK per MWh for every quarter hour.
- Conversion to øre/kWh: DKK/MWh divided by 10 gives øre/kWh.
- Hourly price: an hour's price is the average of its four quarter-hour prices. In the quarter-hour view we show each quarter's own price.
- VAT: 25 % VAT is added on top. That is the price you see in the chart, messages and figures.
Example: 1,000 DKK/MWh = 100 øre/kWh excl. VAT = 125 øre/kWh (1.25 DKK/kWh) incl. VAT.
Negative prices get the same VAT calculation, so they grow 25 % in magnitude too.
What is not included in the price?
The spot price is only one part of your electricity bill. These items are not included in the figures here:
- Grid tariff to your grid company. It varies between grid companies and with the time of day.
- Electricity tax and other government charges.
- Your supplier's markup and any subscription.
Items like these differ from household to household. That is why we show the market price, which is the same for everyone in the same price area. Use it to find the cheapest hours, not as your final price.
When do tomorrow's prices come out?
Around 1 pm every day. As soon as the prices for both zones are ready, we send the daily message.
Which zone should I pick, DK1 or DK2?
DK1 is West Denmark (Jutland and Funen, west of the Great Belt Bridge). DK2 is East Denmark (Zealand, Lolland-Falster and Bornholm, east of the Great Belt Bridge). Pick the one where you live.
How do I get notified?
Press "Turn on notifications" on the front page for a notification in your browser. Discord and Telegram are coming soon. Everything is free and none of it needs an account.
What do you store about me?
As little as possible: no account, no cookies, no analytics and no email. For browser notifications we store the browser's push address and keys plus your zone. For Discord we store your user id and your zone. You can turn notifications off again at any time.
